True healing starts at the Roots.

My Mission: Roots was created to help people become fluent in their own bodies. Through body literacy and root-cause wellness, I aim to help translate symptoms into meaningful insight and create the conditions for lasting healing.

About

Hi - I am so glad you are here! I’m Sarah, the founder of Roots Holistic Health. In case you were wondering if holistic living is something I’ve always known, or comes naturally to me (pun intended!) - let me give you some context.

I grew up eating the Standard American Diet with blue-collar parents on a budget during a time where being skinny was considered a moral high ground. I was surrounded by new consumer products with flashy marketing that distracted us from what was really inside them. I drank too much alcohol and ate too much late night pizza in college through my early 20’s. I popped Advil like it was candy anytime anything hurt. I was put on antibiotics often, and was conditioned to not trust my own intuition around my body - to only trust a certain set of credentials. I existed in fight-or-flight for a very long time. I yo-yo dieted. I yo-yo exercised. I cried in front of my mirror countless times questioning whether it would be like this forever.

In my late 20s and early 30s, I spent over seven years suffering, misdiagnosed, and mistreated by conventional medicine — until, nearly out of hope, I found functional medicine. Taking a root cause approach to my symptoms ultimately helped me put multiple conditions into remission, and started a journey to better understand, and create a better relationship with myself. My goal is to pay this life-changing experience forward by helping others. If you couldn’t already tell from the above - this life isn’t the highway I lived on for two and a half decades. I have had to (and still must) choose to take the side-roads and deer paths every day. I deeply understand how challenging it is to change your food and lifestyle choices because I have had to do that myself.

All of this led me to enrolling in the Energetic Health Institute’s two-year Holistic Nutrition program after 15 years in Corporate America, and deciding to make this my new life’s work.

As a Certified Holistic Nutritionist, I am educated in how to nourish the body, mind and soul by deep, root-cause analysis, understanding the whole person, the body as a system and the mind as equal participant in the healing process.

I can’t wait to meet you and partner with you in your healing journey!

1. Body Literacy Healing starts with understanding, and I believe your body is always trying to tell you something. My goal is to help you learn that language — so that symptoms feel like useful information rather than something to push through or be afraid of.

2. Root-Cause Healing I'm not interested in quick fixes. I want to understand the why behind what you're experiencing — looking at the full picture of your life, from what you eat and how you sleep to the stress you carry and the environment you're in. Real change comes from addressing the root, not just the symptom.

3. Self-Trust One of the things that drives me most is watching people reconnect with confidence in their own bodies. So much of what I do is about helping you rebuild that trust — in your intuition, in your ability to ask good questions, and in your right to be an active part of your own healing.

4. Sustainable Wellness I've seen what perfectionism and extremes do to people, and it's not health — it's burnout. What I care about is building habits that actually fit your life, feel good over time, and leave room for joy. Sustainable is the only kind of wellness worth pursuing.

5. Curiosity Over Fear There's so much noise in the health world, and a lot of it is designed to scare you. I'd rather help you think critically, ask better questions, and understand what's actually true for your body — without the panic or the trends.

6. Whole-Person Health Your body doesn't exist in a vacuum. How you feel physically is connected to your emotions, your relationships, how much you rest, how you move, and what nourishes you. I look at all of it, because you're a whole person — not a collection of separate symptoms.

7. Healing in Community I started Roots because I know how isolating health struggles can feel. There's something powerful that happens when people come together, share their experiences honestly, and realize they're not alone. That kind of connection is part of the healing too.

What is Holistic Nutrition?

Holistic nutrition is the practice of looking at food as more than just calories or macros — and looking at nutrition itself as more than just food.

Your body is nourished by everything it takes in. That includes what's on your plate, but also the air you breathe, the water you drink, the sleep you get, the sunlight you take in, the environments you move through, and the experiences and perspectives that shape how you live. All of it informs how your body functions, how you feel, and how ultimately you heal.

Food and lifestyle are medicine. Not metaphorically — literally. The choices you make every day are either working for your body or against it, and holistic nutrition seeks to harness these to help you feel amazing.

Holistic nutrition asks why your body is responding the way it is — and uses food, lifestyle, and habit as tools to address the root cause, not just the symptom.

I believe that body is a system, not simply a compilation of individual parts. I believe that symptoms are messages that only get louder the longer you live with and normalize them. And more than anything, I believe your body has exactly what it needs and that you have the power to heal.

Out of Scope

Transparency is critical, and for those new to the space I think it’s important to clarify what is NOT in scope of my holistic nutritionist certification and experience: Where something is out of my scope, I am more than happy to work with your existing professional care team to support you and/or refer you out to professionals in the space that I know and trust.

  • I cannot and will not diagnose, treat, manage or heal a specific condition, disease or illness.

    • I can work to support an existing or emerging diagnosis and/or symptoms with principles of holistic nutrition and lifestyle management.

  • I cannot prescribe or start, stop, or change a medication or dosage.

    • This must be done with a physician who can legally do so. Similar to the above, I am able to support your nutrition and lifestyle as you onboard or offboard medications.

  • Practice Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT).

    • This is specific to RD/RDN licensed individuals. I can offer general, whole-person nutrition education and lifestyle guidance rooted in holistic principles.
